PROSTHODONTIC TREATMENT

Prosthodontics

We carefully assess the damaged tooth and your bite
to provide restorations
that look natural and feel comfortable.

What is prosthodontics?

Prosthodontics restores teeth damaged by decay, fracture or wear
with artificial materials, or replaces missing teeth,
to bring back chewing function and tooth form.

Rather than simply filling an empty space, it is important
to consider the remaining teeth, the gums and the bite
when choosing the right method and material.

When prosthodontic treatment is needed

The restoration you need depends on the extent of damage
and how the tooth is functioning.

If you have any of the following symptoms or concerns,
a thorough examination will show which treatment is right for you.

Decay too extensive for
a standard composite filling

A chipped, broken or
severely worn tooth

A tooth weakened by root canal treatment
that needs protection

An old restoration that is broken,
loose or discolored

A missing tooth leaving a gap
that needs to be restored

Discomfort when chewing
or a bite that does not fit together

Types of restoration by tooth condition

The restoration we use depends on the extent of damage
and the condition of the remaining tooth.
Based on a precise diagnosis, we choose the method
that preserves as much natural tooth as possible.

Type 01

Composite Resin

For small areas of damage, a tooth-colored composite resin
allows simple cavity treatment.

Type 02

Inlay

When a larger area of the tooth must be removed, an impression is taken and a custom inlay is bonded in place.

Prosthodontics: crown illustration
Type 03

Crown

A dental crown covers and protects a tooth weakened after root canal treatment.

Prosthodontics: implant illustration
Type 04

Implant

When the tooth cannot be saved, it is extracted and replaced with an implant
that closely matches a natural tooth in function and appearance.

Prosthodontics Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions patients most often ask
before visiting Seoul Standard Dental Clinic.

Do I always need a crown after root canal treatment?

After root canal treatment, a tooth becomes weaker and more likely to fracture.
Molars, which bear heavy chewing forces, often need a crown, but it depends on the position and condition of the tooth.

Which crown material is best?

Zirconia, all-ceramic and gold each differ in strength, appearance and where they are best used.
No single material is always better. We choose based on the tooth's position, bite forces and your esthetic needs.

How long do crowns and other restorations last?

The lifespan of a restoration depends on the material, oral care, teeth grinding and regular checkups.
Keeping the area around the restoration free of decay and gum disease is important.

What should I do if a crown or filling comes off or breaks?

Keep the restoration rather than throwing it away and come in as soon as possible.
Do not try to glue it back yourself, and avoid chewing hard foods on that side.

How much does prosthodontic treatment cost?

Crowns: PFM KRW 400,000, zirconia KRW 500,000, all-ceramic KRW 600,000, gold (type A) KRW 800,000. Hybrid inlay KRW 320,000, temporary denture KRW 300,000 (prices as of 2026-08-17, confirmed by the Director).
Crowns, bridges and similar restorations are generally not covered by National Health Insurance. Separate coverage programs exist for dentures and implants for patients aged 65 and over (source: National Health Insurance Service).

Will an inlay be enough, or do I need a full crown?

The deciding factor is how much healthy tooth structure remains.
If the damage is limited to part of the chewing surface and enough wall remains, an inlay preserves the tooth. If the remaining structure is thin and likely to fracture, or the tooth has been weakened by root canal treatment, a crown that covers the whole tooth is chosen.
We make the decision together with you, based on the X-ray evidence.

Why does a bridge require grinding down healthy neighboring teeth?

A bridge rests on the teeth on either side of the gap, which must be shaped into supports, so some reduction of those teeth is unavoidable.
This can be reasonable if the neighboring teeth already need crowns. If they are healthy, intact teeth, we compare alternatives such as an implant.
Regular floss cannot reach under the false tooth, so special cleaning tools are needed.
