SEDATION IMPLANT

Sedation Implants

We reduce the fear and tension of dental treatment
so implant surgery can proceed in a more relaxed state.

What are sedation implants?

Sedation implants are an approach in which sedative medication helps the patient
stay relaxed and settled
while
implant treatment
is carried out.

Treatment is generally performed in a sedated state in which the patient
can breathe on their own and respond to
the clinician's touch or instructions
, and local anesthesia
is given alongside it for pain control.

Standard implants vs. sedation implants

Sedation implants do not use a different implant
or a different placement technique.
Conscious sedation is simply applied
to the implant surgery itself.

Who sedation implants are recommended for

If you have strong dental anxiety or a long
implant surgery feels overwhelming,

sedation can be considered after a careful
review of your general health.

Patients with severe fear
or tension about dental treatment

Patients with a bad experience
from past dental treatment

Patients with a strong gag reflex
that makes long treatment difficult

Patients who need several implants
placed in one session

Patients who need combined surgery such as
a bone graft or sinus lift

Patients who find a long surgery time hard to bear

Sedation implants treatment process

Based on a detailed examination and medical history, we plan
the implant placement and the sedation together,
and watch the patient closely from treatment through recovery.

Recovery check and discharge

In the recovery area we confirm that consciousness and vital signs have recovered well,
explain the aftercare instructions, and you go home with your companion.

Sedation implants before and after care

From fasting and medication checks before treatment to a companion
and proper rest afterward,
following the instructions you are given supports a stable
treatment and recovery.

Fast for the period you are instructed.

To reduce the risk of vomiting or aspiration during sedation, limit food and drink
according to the timing and instructions given by the clinic.

Tell us about systemic conditions and medications.

Let us know in advance about conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes, current medications,
allergies and previous surgeries. Do not stop any medication on your own; discuss it with the clinical team.

Come with a companion.

Drowsiness or dizziness can linger for a while after sedation,
so we recommend coming to the clinic with a companion on the day of treatment.

Avoid driving and
important tasks on the same day.

Judgment and reaction time may not be fully recovered after treatment,
so avoid driving, operating machinery and making important decisions.

Rest well and
avoid strenuous activity.

Rest well after treatment and, for the period you are instructed, avoid alcohol, smoking,
intense exercise and saunas.

Follow your prescription and recovery instructions.

Take prescribed medication as directed, and start with soft foods once you are fully alert.
If bleeding or pain gets worse, contact the clinic.

Sedation implants frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions patients most often ask
before visiting Seoul Standard Dental Clinic.

Will I feel pain from the implant surgery while sedated?

Sedation is used to reduce tension and anxiety, and local anesthesia is given alongside it for pain control.
How much you feel or remember during treatment can vary from person to person.

Can multiple implants or a bone graft be done at the same time?

If your oral and general health allow it, sedation can be applied to combined treatments such as multiple implants, bone grafts or a sinus lift.
The scope of treatment is decided after a detailed examination.

Can older patients or patients with systemic conditions have sedation implants?

Age alone does not decide whether sedation implants are possible.
We check systemic conditions, current medications, blood pressure and overall health, consult with the relevant physician when needed, and then decide whether sedation is appropriate.

Can I go home right after sedation implant surgery?

After treatment, you rest until we confirm that your consciousness and vital signs have recovered to a stable level, and then you can go home.
A companion must accompany you on the day, and you should not drive yourself.

How much do sedation implants cost?

The conscious sedation fee of KRW 300,000 is added to the implant fee.
Implants are priced per tooth: Megagen ST KRW 690,000, Osstem BA KRW 890,000, Osstem SOI KRW 1,090,000. These are standard prices (price basis date 2026-08-17, confirmed by the Director).
Additional procedures such as a bone graft or sinus lift are charged separately.

Are sedation implants different from implants under general anesthesia?

Yes.
Conscious sedation is a light level of sedation in which spontaneous breathing and responsiveness are maintained, combined with local anesthesia. General anesthesia is a separate field in which the patient is fully unconscious and operating-room level management is required (source: Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, National Health Information Portal, dental sedation).
What dental clinics call sleep anesthesia usually means conscious sedation.

I take osteoporosis medication. Can I still have sedation implants?

Antiresorptive drugs such as bisphosphonates and denosumab are associated with a risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Before treatments that involve bleeding, such as extractions or implants, guidelines recommend consulting the prescribing physician about whether and when to pause the medication (source: relevant academic society MRONJ guidelines).
Do not stop the medication on your own. Let us know first, and we will coordinate the timing with your physician.
